Here is the some information on getting tickets to Barack Obama's Inauguration

Looking for one of the 240,000 tickets to President-elect Obama's inauguration on Jan. 20, 2009? Here are some details:

Tickets to the inauguration ceremony are free and distributed through the newly elected and re-elected members of Congress in January 2009. Members of the public who wish to attend should contact their senator or congressman to request a ticket. Congressional offices will get the tickets about a week before the swearing-in ceremony; in-person pickup is required.
"Any Web site or ticket broker claiming that they have inaugural tickets is simply not telling the truth," Howard Gantman, staff director for the Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies, said in a statement on the panel's Web site. "Tickets for the swearing-in ... are all provided through members of Congress, and the President-elect and Vice President-elect through the Presidential Inaugural Committee" A number of groups automatically gets tickets, such as members of Congress, former lawmakers, Supreme Court justices, Medal of Honor winners and of course, the president-elect, vice president-elect and their families. The remaining tickets are distributed to lawmakers on Capitol Hill.

The tickets haven't even been distributed yet, and already they're listed on eBay, where one seller offered two for $31,000 on Monday.
If you prefer not to patronize scalpers, you can get tickets to the Jan. 20 presidential inauguration for free. You just have to ask your congressman. And get in line.

The actual swearing-in ceremony, to be held on the steps of the Capitol, will be open to the public. But to get anywhere close to it, you will need tickets or the willpower to camp out early in bitter Washington winter weather. You can also join the crowds lining the parade route after the ceremony.
Legislators won't get tickets until the week before, and they must be picked up in person to discourage scalping.
The inaugural balls also promise to be packed. Tickets to the traditional Black Tie and Boots ball, held by the Texas State Society at Washington's Gaylord Hotel, had already drawn bids Monday of up to $350 on eBay. More than 12,000 guests are expected.
